Kitchen/Living Wall Removal in a Ground Floor Apartment

The brief – remove the wall between kitchen & living

Melbourne Wall Removals removed the kitchen/living wall in this 1930’s ground floor apartment. Due to the restricted first floor space, and a party wall, this project required a bulkhead and plaster wrapped columns to achieve the removal of the wall and associated doorways.

Prior to the renovation, the client had the original 1930’s kitchen, old non-functional kitchen stove space that was converted into a pantry, and no visibility into the living room. Removal of this wall at the beginning stage of their renovations allowed the client to undertake the remainder of the works in the correct order, ensuring that things were done right the first time.

The result – The increase of space and functionality not only made this home truly functional for a growing family, but a perfect entertaining space also.

The brief – make the home a liveable space for our family.

Using the same floor space, we were able to make the structural alterations for our client to maximise their home, creating a functional and inviting kitchen and living space, a butler’s pantry, and even room for a lux study area. What was previously a very dark, closed in space, Melbourne Wall Removals managed the procurement of engineering and building permit and associated paperwork, undertook the structural works, built new walls, added cavity sliders, changed doorway profiles and doors, created an external door opening and sourced and installed the new stacker door unit, provided a kitchen contact, and got this clients home back to plaster in readiness for paint and styling by others, all whilst the client was able to still live at home during the works. 

The result – a beautiful, crisp canvas of functional space, ready for the client to style and enjoy.

The brief – help us transform our home into a bright, open and functional living space.

By reconfiguring the existing footprint, we helped our client unlock the full potential of their home through carefully planned structural alterations, without needing to do an extension. The project created a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, improved natural light, and delivered a practical layout better suited to modern family living.

Our client had already engaged an engineer & draftsman, and Melbourne Wall Removals liaised with clients initial team to ensure the best outcomes for our client, before then managing a seamless process of having a building permit issued. Our team completed the structural wall removals and beam installations, created a new external opening for a kitchen splashback window, converted an existing door opening into a beautiful, fixed panel glass window which looks out into the backyard, and got the home back to a finished plaster level ready for the client to make it their home.

Melbourne Wall Removals also provided our client with a joinery contact, and as you can see, with our clients vision for the space they wanted to create, the work from Neal and our team, and the interior furnishings of flooring, styling, and joinery, these homeowners have a beautiful space they can enjoy with their family and friends at a cost that was much more realistic than other options they had been presented.  

The result – a light-filled, contemporary space that feels significantly larger, incredibly welcoming, and flows seamlessly to the outdoors.
